  • ROLFING® - Structural Integration

Rolfing® - The whole body approach to well-being

Rolfing® Structural Integration is named after Dr. Ida P. Rolf. She began her inquiry more than fifty years ago, devoting her energy to creating a holistic system of soft tissue manipulation and movement education that organized the whole body in gravity; she eventually named this system Structural Integration. She discovered that she could achieve remarkable changes in posture and structure by manipulating the body's myofascial system.

"Rolfing" is the nickname that many clients and practitioners gave this work, and is now a registered service mark in 27 countries. Rolfing structural integration has an unequaled and unprecedented ability to dramatically alter a person's posture and structure. Professional athletes, dancers, children, business people, and people from all walks of life have benefited from Rolfing. People seek Rolfing as a way to ease pain and chronic stress, and improve performance in their professional and daily activities.

Research has demonstrated that Rolfing creates a more efficient use of the muscles, allows the body to conserve energy, and creates more economical and refined patterns of movement. Research also shows that Rolfing significantly reduces chronic stress and changes in the body structure.

  • WHAT IS ROLFING®?

Rolfing is an original and scientifically validated system of body restructuring and movement education. It releases the body segments - legs, torso, arms, etc-from life-long patterns of tension and bracing and permits gravity to realign them, by doing so, it balances the body.

Of all the forces affecting the human body, gravity is among the most powerful. Body misalignment in gravity results in chronic strain, lowered vitality and impaired biological and psychological functioning. Because the body is better balanced after Rolfing, it expends less of its vital energies against gravity. This biological energy-efficiency is often experienced as a higher level of alertness and vitality. Movement becomes easier and overall personal functioning grace and ease tends to improve.

  • WHAT IS THE ROLFING® TEN SERIES?

The ten series is a sequence of ten sessions of Rolfing often referred to as 'the recipe'. The profound logic of this sequence is a consequence of over 50 years of frequently reconsidered theory and practical application. The first three sessions are called the 'sleeve sessions'. Mobility in the tissue must precede its re-positioning and these sessions, in part, are devoted to loosening the surface layers of connective tissue.

The next four sessions are referred to as the 'core sessions' and deal with releasing the structures from the inner leg through the cranium. The last three hours are the integrative hours. In the preceding sessions the various parts of the body have been differentiated from one another, now they need to be re-articulated into a more balanced relationship with each other and with gravity as a whole.

  • THE PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

Because Rolfing is a wholistic technique, it is recognized that changes in structure will impact the whole person, physically, emotionally, energetically, and often spiritually. The Rolf institute recognizes that ultimately, it is the persons own experience of the work that is of primary importance. This plays a central role in the transformational aspect of Rolfing.

Benefits of Therapeutic Bodywork

Relieves Stress
Stress relief is key to achieving a healthier lifestyle. Even a single Therapeuptic Bodywork session can significantly lower heart rate, cortisol and insulin levels, all of which help reduce daily stress.

Encourages Relaxation
Relax. Reset. Repeat. Therapeuptic Bodywork has been shown to help the body enter a relaxing rest-and-recovery mode,an effect that lingers long after the bodywork is over.

Improves Circulation
The pressure created by Therapeuptic Bodywork moves blood through stagnant or congested areas. This causes new blood to flow in, resulting in improved body function on various levels.

Lower Blood Pressure
High blood pressure has more misconceptions than nearly any other medical condition. But one effective way to stave off high blood pressure naturally is Therapeuptic Bodywork.

Relaxes Muscles
Got neck, back or muscle pain? Odds are, sitting all day at the office is the culprit. Therapeuptic Bodywork gets to the root of persistent pain by relaxing tense muscles.

Improves Flexibility and Range of Motion
As we age, joints tend to tighten, making range of motion more restricted. Therapeuptic Bodywork helps keep joints more fluid, making you more flexible and less prone to injury.

Promotes Deeper and Easier Breathing
One of the telltale signs of anxiety and stress is constricted breathing. Massage can play an important role in reliving respiratory issues and training the body how to relax.

Relieves Headaches
Therapeuptic Bodywork helps ease the pressure and pain, which can also reduce the chance and frequency of headaches and migranes.

Strengthens the Immune System
Regular bodywork can naturally increase the immune system's cytotoxic capacity–the activity level of the body's natural "killer cells".

Enhances Post-Operative Rehabilitation
Therapeuptic Bodywork helps the body pump more oxygen and nutrients into tissues and vital organs. This makes massage therapy a great supplement to post-operative rehabilitation.

Improves Rehabilitation After Injury
Rehabilitation can be frustrating. A continual Therapeuptic Bodywork program can accelerate the recovery process, as well as help you relax and stay motivated.
